Late Iranian Director Abbas Kiarostami has been named the Asian Filmmaker of the Year by the 21st Busan International Film Festival(BIFF).

The BIFF awards the honor to Asian filmmakers or organizations that have made great contributions to the movie industry and culture of Asia.

Kiarostami died on July fourth at the age of 76.

The director's son Ahmad will receive the honor on behalf of his father at a ceremony to be held on October sixth at the opening of the 21st BIFF.
