South Korea’s Little League baseball team has finished runner-up in the 2016 Little League World Series.

At the championship game held on Sunday at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, South Korea lost to New York's Maine-Endwell 2-1, dashing its hope of bringing home a second world title in three years.

South Korean starter Jeong Jun-ho threw perfect 3 1/3 innings before he gave up three consecutive hits in the bottom of the fourth that led to a run scored by Conner Rush on a single.

Jeong struck out the next at-bat Jack Hopko, but as the ball deflected off the mitt of catcher Cho Jun-seo, U.S. starter Ryan Harlost scored from the third.

Yoomin Lee struck back for South Korea in the fifth inning with a solo homer, but the team failed to turn the table in a game that lasted for six innings.

The country advanced to the championship game after beating Panama 7-2 in the international final on Saturday.

In 2014, South Korea won the Little League World Series for the first time in 29 years, beating Chicago 8-4 at the same venue.
