Gwangju Biennale Kicks off 66-Day Run

The Gwangju Biennale held its opening ceremony on Thursday, kicking off a 66-day run of the largest contemporary art fair in Asia.

Around 120 artists from 37 countries will display their artworks crafted in tune with the theme of this year’s event, “The Eighth Climate (What does art do?)”.

They will be unveiled to the public on Friday with various events, including special exhibitions, to be held across the southwestern city.

Nine young local artists, selected through the 2016 Gwangju Biennale Portfolio Review Program, will also showcase their art pieces at the Mugak Temple in until October 31.

The Gwangju Biennale Special Exhibition, organized by the association of local artists, will also be held at the Asia Culture Center through November 6, while the South Korea-Taiwan Contemporary Art Exhibition will be held at the Gwangju Museum of Art until November 13.
