Highways to See Heaviest Traffic Next Wednesday, Thursday

The nation's highways are expected to witness a peak in traffic on Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon of next week due to the Chuseok holiday period.

According to a survey conducted by the Korea Transport Institute on transportation demand, around 37-point-five million people are expected to travel around the nation throughout the five-day holiday period. On the day of Chuseok next Thursday, almost eight million people are expected to hit the road.

The total amount of people expected to travel during the holidays is up eight-tenths of a percent compared to last year.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has designated the period between Tuesday and Sunday of next week as a special transport period. During that period, the ministry will expand the capacity of public transportation, among other steps, to disperse traffic.
