S. Korea Draws 0-0 with Syria in World Cup Qualifier

South Korea’s national football team was held to a goalless draw with Syria on Tuesday in their second match of the final qualifying round for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Coming off a 3-2 victory over China last week, South Korea seized several goal chances against Syria at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, Malaysia, but failed to capitalize on them.

With a single point added, South Korea is now placed third in Group A, trailing second-place Iran on goal difference. Uzbekistan jumped to the top spot with two straight victories, including a 1-0 win over Qatar on Tuesday.

South Korea will next face Qatar at Suwon World Cup Stadium on October 6.

The top two teams of each group will advance to the Russia World Cup, while the third-place teams will vie for the remaining berths through a playoff stage.
