S. Korea's Jo Gi-seong Wins First Paralympic Gold in Swimming

South Korean swimmer Jo Gi-seong has won a gold medal at the Rio Paralympic Games.

In the men’s 100 meter freestyle final in the S4 classification on Thursday, Jo clocked in at one minute 23-point-36 seconds, bringing the first gold for South Korea in Paralympic swimming. 

Jo came to prominence by winning the 200 meter freestyle at the 2014 Asian Para Games and set championship records in the men’s 100 meter and 200 meter freestyle at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships.

He will vie for more gold medals in the 50-meter and 200-meter freestyle in Rio. 

Jo started swimming in 2008 as rehabilitation for congenital encephalopathy.
