Taekwondo Poomsae Approved as Asian Games Event

Taekwondo Poomsae, a demonstrative form of the traditional Korean martial art, has been approved as an official event of the Asian Games beginning with the Jakarta Games in 2018.

The National Olympic Committee of Indonesia said on Monday that the Olympic Council of Asia(OCA) held a general meeting in Danang, Vietnam and endorsed Poomsae as an Asian Games event.

Poomsae, a set of choreographed defense-and-attack motions featuring strikes, blocks and kicks, is an important part of Taekwondo designed to help discipline the mind and enhance flexibility.

So far, the Asian Games had included only Taekwondo Kyorugi events between two opponents.
