Cancer Remains No.1 Cause of Death for S. Koreans

Recent data has shown that cancer continues to be the leading cause of death for South Koreans.
 
According to the data by Statistics Korea released on Tuesday, the total number of deaths last year amounted to 275-thousand-895, up three-point-one percent from 2014.
 
Cancer was found to be the number one cause of death for the 33rd consecutive year in 2015. Last year, a total of 76-thousand-855 people died due to cancer.
 
The nation’s cancer mortality rate per 100-thousand people stood at 150-point-eight, or three times the mortality rate for cardiovascular disease, which was found to be the second most common cause of death. 
 
Cerebrovascular disease was the third highest cause of death followed by pneumonia.
 
The data showed suicide to be the fifth highest cause of death with 26-point-five people per 100-thousand taking their own lives.
