An online Korean dictionary in which anyone can add or revise lexical information will be introduced.
The National Institute of Korean Language announced on Wednesday that it will launch services of the wiki at opendict.korean.go.kr from next Wednesday.
The envisioned dictionary will include 500-thousand words on file with the institute’s basic Korean dictionary, 75-thousand new and everyday words, 90-thousand regional dialects and 350-thousand technical terms.
Anyone can participate in editing the content as is allowed on Wikipedia. However, in order to filter out inaccurate information, a procedure will be established in which an expert will look over the proposed revisions or additions.
The institute will also launch a dictionary that provides translations of the institute’s basic Korean dictionary(krdict.korean.go.kr) into ten languages, including Russian, Mongolian, Vietnamese, Spanish, Arabic, English, Indonesian and Japanese.
