N. Korea Hints at Possible 'Satellite' Launch

North Korea has reaffirmed its intent to launch what it claims is a satellite amid reports that it is preparing for a launch of a long-range missile around Monday, the North’s anniversary of the foundation of the Workers’ Party.

The North’s ruling party newspaper Rodong Sinmun said on Saturday that a North Korean representative gave a speech at a session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday.

The report said that in the speech, the North, as one of the top-ten space powers, reaffirmed its determination to open the path to conquer the vastness of space while securing the maximum level of transparency and in compliance of international regulations and practices.

With the report, North Korea seems to have hinted its plan to launch what it calls a satellite, while the international community considers it a long-range missile because it uses the same technology found in ballistic missiles.
