Flooding Concerns Emerge with Incheon Sea Level Likely to Reach Record High

Concerns have emerged over possible coastal flooding as sea levels are expected to reach a record high on Monday with the distance between the Earth and the moon getting closer.

The Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said sea levels off the port city of Incheon are expected to stand at 958 centimeters at 5:40 p.m. Monday, or the highest this year.

The figure falls on the third highest level of the agency’s four-tier system for sea level heights and is around ten centimeters higher than the level at high tides.

With the tidal range expected to stand at one-thousand-ten centimeters for Pyeongtaek and 990 centimeters for Incheon on Monday, the agency advised coastal regions to be prepared for damage resulting from possible flooding.

The agency also advised people in the areas to stay away from the beach.
