Jeju Film Festival to Open Next Month

The French language comedy “Marguerite” is set to be the opening film of the seventh Jeju Film Festival when it gets underway next month.

The film, shot mainly in Prague, Czech Republic, is inspired by the life of Florence Foster Jenkins, an eccentric millionaire whose terrible singing voice did not prevent her from buying her way to a performance at Carnegie Hall in 1944.

The French film is not to be confused with the US film "Florence Foster Jenkins" starring Meryl Streep.  Its prominence at the Jeju festival is in celebration of the 130th anniversary of diplomatic ties between France and Korea.

The Jeju festival will also showcase diverse films in five categories, including animation and documentary.

All the selected films will be shown for free at theaters across the southern island from November third to sixth.

More information is available at the website of the Jeju International Culture Exchange Association.

The festival also has its own blog and Facebook page.
