Starting in December, KBS will provide high-definition video services on its terrestrial digital multimedia, or DMB broadcasting channel, 'U-KBS Star'.
 
The new DMB service is aimed at providing accurate information on disasters through a better image quality.
 
In order to improve image quality while maintaining the existing DMB frequency, a high-efficiency video coding technology will be used. 
 
The high-definition DMB service will be available on newer smartphones and navigators, and some old models as long as they are upgraded. The current low video quality service will be maintained for the time being.
