VANK Releases 34 Promotional Videos of Dokdo

A South Korean non-governmental organization has posted 34 videos online promoting the country's easternmost Dokdo Islets in light of Dokdo Day on Tuesday.

The Voluntary Agency Network for Korea, or VANK, said it is sharing promotional videos on YouTube produced by the group to help raise public awareness that Dokdo is South Korean territory.

The videos are divided into three themes which include: looking at Dokdo as a microcosm of the Imperial Japanese Army’s invasion of the Korean Peninsula and not a territorial dispute between South Korea and Japan; legitimizing South Korea’s sovereignty over the islets through history and under international laws; and introducing young South Koreans promoting Dokdo worldwide.

Dokdo Day marks the day when Emperor Gojong of the Daehan Empire officially designated Dokdo as an affiliate of nearby Ulleung Island on October 25th, 1900.
