Park Chan-wook's "The Handmaiden" Gains Popularity in US

Park Chan-wook’s new movie “The Handmaiden” is receiving a warm response from moviegoers in the U.S.

According to CJ Entertainment America on Tuesday, the film has posted 92-thousand-129 dollars in ticket sales for three days since it was released in five movie theaters in Los Angeles and New York.

A company official said despite a 145-minute running time, the movie sold out for the first two days.

On average, each cinema grossed 18-thousand-426 dollars from ticket sales of the South Korean movie, marking the third highest amount per theater among movies currently being screened in the U.S., following “Moonlight” directed by Barry Jenkins and “Trump Land” by Michael Moore.

Beginning Friday, “The Handmaiden” will be screened in around 100 cinemas in 25 cities in the U.S., including Seattle, Chicago and New Jersey.
