11th London Korean Film Festival Opens

The biggest South Korean film festival in Europe opened on Thursday in London.

The London Korean Film Festival raised its curtain with the screening of “The Truth Beneath" directed by Lee Kyoung-mi and starring Son Ye-jin and Kim Joo-hyuk.

This year’s event, the eleventh of its kind, will feature a total of 61 South Korean movies. The films will be screened in ten theaters in downtown London and five other cities, including Manchester.

In particular, this year’s festival will present a special collection entitled “The Lives of Korean Women Through the Eyes of Women Directors,” showcasing ten works by Korean female directors. One of the works will include the 1995 film “The Widow,” which is South Korea’s first female directed movie.

Also later on Thursday, Kim Sung-soo, director of “Asura: The City of Madness” and one of the film’s leading actors, Jung Woo-sung, will hold a question and answer session with visitors.

The festival will run through November 27th.
