The International Telecommunication Union(ITU) has approved two biorecognition technologies developed by South Korean researchers as international standards during a recent meeting in Geneva.
The Korea Internet and Security Agency(KISA) said Sunday that the two technologies relate to mobile biorecognition security and biorecognition security tokens.
The first technology divides biorecognition methods on mobile devices, including smartphones, into 12 categories and proposes measures to respond to security threats in processing biometric data. The second technology relates to substituting passwords in digital certificates with biorecognition data.
The ITU also approved joint research on remote recognition of biosignals by KISA and researchers from the U.S. and Spain as a new international standard. The technology combines multiple biosignals such as fingerprints and electrocardiograms to use as a recognition method.
