Fly that Feeds on Insects Discovered in S. Korea

A large-winged fly which can be used in eradicating harmful insects in an eco-friendly way has been discovered in South Korea for the first time.

The Ministry of Environment said on Wednesday that it confirmed the existence of the “lauxaniidae” through a months-long survey of insects conducted nationwide.

It is the first time this natural enemy of harmful insects was discovered in the country. Around 200 types of such flies have been reported from all around the world.

During its larval stage, they feed on harmful insects, such as aphids, for which they are considered as an effective means to contain insect pests.
