S. Korea Defeats Uzbekistan 2-1 in World Cup Qualifier

The South Korean national football team rallied from behind to beat Uzbekistan 2-1 in the final qualifying round for the Russia World Cup on Tuesday.

During their fifth group match at Seoul World Cup Stadium, Marat Bikmaev put the visitors ahead in the 25th minute.

South Korea came back in the second half with Nam Tae-hee leveling the score in the 67th. Koo Ja-cheol completed the come-from-behind victory for the host in the 85th, connecting Kim Shin-wook’s heading pass into the net.

With the victory, South Korea has reclaimed the runner-up position in the six-team Group A, while Uzbekistan fell back to number three.

South Korea trails the group leader Iran by one point.

The final World Cup qualifying round has reached the half-way point. South Korea will face its next opponent China in March.
