Mun Ra-young Becomes 1st S. Korean Female Skeleton Athlete to Win International Event

Mun Ra-young won a gold medal in skeleton at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation's North America Cup in Calgary, Canada, becoming the first South Korean female to win an international title in the sport.

The 20-year-old won secured the gold on Tuesday with a combined time of one minute and 58-point-12 seconds at the end of two races.

Mun came in third in the first race with 59-point-17 seconds but clocked the fastest time in the second race at 58-point-95 seconds.

Her compatriot, Jeong Sophia, also won a bronze medal in the same event with the combined time of one minute 58-point-37 seconds, zero-point-11 second behind silver medalist Madison Charney of Canada.

South Korea's Lee Jeong-hyeok came in eighth with a total time of two minutes one-point-11 seconds.

In the men’s skeleton, Kim Jun-hyeon won a bronze medal with the combined time of one minute and 55-point-22 seconds.

In the four-man bobsleigh event also held in Calgary, the South Korean team consisting of Won Yun-jong, Kim Jin-su, Ji Hoon and Oh Jea-han won a bronze with a total time of one minute and 50-point-17 seconds.
