Jang Sung-bok Becomes Oldest Man to Win Cheonha title in Ssireum

Thirty-six-year-old Jang Sung-bok became the oldest person to win the highest honor in traditional Korean wrestling, known as ssireum.

Jang defeated 23-year-old Kim Jae-hwan 3-0 at the 2016 unlimited weight class Cheonha Jangsa tournament in Seoul on Monday.

Jang received 150 million won in prize money.

Hwang Gyu-yeon held the previous record for the oldest man when he won the Cheonha title at the age of 34 in 2009.

Jang won the heaviest Baekdu class, the under 150-kilogram title, three times, but it was his first victory in the Cheonha class, which is considered the highlight of ssireum.
