First Test Event for Pyeongchang Olympics to Begin

The first test event of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will be held in a scenic mountain resort in Gangwon Province this week.

According to organizers of the 2018 Winter Games, the two-day FIS(International Ski Federation) Snowboard World Cup will kick off at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Center on Friday. 

Following the event, 25 other test events will be held until April, including 17 events for the Olympics and five events for the Paralympic Games.

The test events are being held to check on the readiness of South Korea, which is gearing up to host its first-ever Winter Olympics.

Meanwhile, a total of 95 athletes from 23 countries, including five South Koreans, will compete in the Snowboard World Cup. 

Jamie Anderson of the U.S., a gold medalist from the last Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014, and several other top athletes will participate in the event.
