The South Korean ski resort city of Pyeongchang was making a last-minute effort Tuesday to rally support for its bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Pyeongchang, located in South Korea's mountainous eastern region, is competing with Vancouver and Salzburg for the right to play host to the Games.

The winner will be chosen Wednesday at the International Olympic Committee's 115th general assembly.

South Korea has sent a 100-strong delegation led by Prime Minister Goh Kun to promote Pyeongchang's bid, which focuses on its hopes to secure peace on the divided Korean peninsula, currently engulfed in tension over North Korea's nuclear weapons program.

According to analysts in Prague, Pyeongchang's bid is relying mainly on support from Asian and African states, while its rival cities Vancouver and Salzburg are counting on votes from North America and Europe.

Pyeongchang boosted its bid chances recently when North Korea announced its support for the city in the hope a South Korean Winter Games might quell concerns over nuclear tensions.

In Prague, North Korea's IOC representative, Chang Ung, was on hand to personally reiterate his support for the South Korean city.
