Anchor: KBS has received an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television at the Asian TV Awards. The honor commemorates the broadcaster’s efforts in boosting Asian broadcasting culture through popular Korean wave contents.

Reporter: It’s dubbed the Emmy Awards of Asia and at this year’s awards ceremony, Korea is receiving the limelight.

Reflecting the huge popularity of the hit drama Descendants of the Sun, a Singaporean singer sang the theme song in Korean.

KBS President & CEO Ko Dae-young on Thursday received an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Asian Television in recognition of his contributions to the broadcast and television industry.

"We will continue to provide contents to engage viewers not only in Asia but also in other parts of the world...."
 
This year, in addition to the resounding success of Descendants of the Sun, the Moonlight Drawn by Clouds was also well received by Asian viewers.
 
The chief judge at the awards, Man Shu Sum, noted that the Korean Wave was first ignited in 2002 by the hit drama Winter Sonata and that the latest dramas have rekindled the spark in the booming popularity of Korean broadcasting.

"KBS has done a great job in Asia, creating a very good drama engaging all the Asian viewers."
 
Launched in 1996, the annual Asian Television Awards is hosted by Singapore. It is watched by some 300 million viewers around the world.

The Descendants of the Sun has been nominated for the best drama series and the winner is to be announced on Friday night.
