Korean author Han Kang's 'The Vegetarian' has been chosen as one of the year's top ten books by the New York Times. 

The paper on Thursday revealed its 2016 top ten list, which also included 'The Association of Small Bombs' by Karan Mahajan and 'The North Water' by Ian McGuire.

While introducing the novel's story line, the American daily said Han’s treatments of submission and subversion find form in the parable as the main character’s self-abnegation turns increasingly severe and surreal.

Earlier this year, the book won the prestigious Man Booker International Prize in Britain.
