Residents in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province are planning to raise an entire 180-ton church up and transport it to a site 200 meters away.

The Gusan Catholic church was built 60 years ago.  Residents have prevented it from being demolished as part of a redevelopment plan.

They plan to move the whole church on pipe rails just 15 meters per day for 15 days until it reaches its new site.

Worshipers began gathering in the area 180 years ago without a building or a resident priest. The current church structure was built in 1956.

After moving the church to the new site, residents plan to register it as a cultural property to continue its preservation.
