Swimmer Park Tae-hwan Grabs Gold at World Short Course Championship

Swimmer Park Tae-hwan has become the first South Korean to win a gold medal at the world's top short-course competition.

He came in at three minutes 34-point-59 seconds to win the men's 400-meter freestyle at the 13th FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships in Windsor, Canada on Tuesday.

The former Olympic gold medalist held a tight race with Russia's Aleksandr Krasnykh to beat him by just seven-tenths of a second. Peter Bernek of Hungary finished third.

Park's time is just shy of the world record set by France's Yannick Agnel in 2012, but is the fastest 400-meter freestyle this year.

He will vie for another medal in the 200-meter freestyle on Thursday.
