The Literature Translation Institute of Korea has announced that Deborah Smith and three other translators are this year’s winners of Korea Translation Awards.  
 
Twenty-nine-year-old Smith won Britain's prestigious Man Booker International Prize this year for translating Han Kang’s novel “The Vegetarian.”  She has been introducing several other Korean literary works through nonprofit publisher Tilted Axis Press specializing in Asian and African literature.
 
Cho Kyung-hye, the translator of Jeong Yu-jeong’s novel “A Night of Seven Years,” received the honor in the German language category. Two other winners are Kim Soon-hee who translated Lee Seung-wu’s novel “A Conjecture Regarding Labyrinth” into Japanese, and Katarzyna Rozanska, the Polish translator of Yi Mun-yol’s novel “Our Twisted Hero.”
 
The institute made the selections among 89 books published in 14 languages by foreign publishers last year.
