South Korean Park Chan-wook’s erotic thriller “The Handmaiden” ranked ninth in the British daily Guardian’s list of top 50 films released in the United States this year.

Last week, the movie was also selected the eighth best film of the year by film critics of The New York Times. “Moonlight,” “O.J.: Made in America” and “No Home Movie” were among the best ten movies.

“The Handmaiden,” adapted from Sarah Walters’ novel Fingersmith, recently won Best Foreign Picture and Best Production Design from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
