KBS drama "Descendants of the Sun" has topped a list of the most engaging dramas of the year.

The Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation(KOBACO) conducted a survey on six separate occasions based on what is known as the Program Engagement Index(PEI).

The gauge assesses the quality that comes with the experience of watching a show and is not measured by viewership ratings.

It involves questions such as how glued to the television a viewer was and whether a viewer changed the channel in the middle of watching a certain program.

"Descendants of the Sun" received the highest score with 150-point-nine points. MBC drama "W" trailed in second with 146-point-two points.

An index of 100 or above means that the quality of the program was engaging beyond average.
