A local film production board said Saturday the market share of South Korean movies at local theaters rose 1 percentage point from a year earlier to 47 percent in the first six months of the year.

The number of moviegoers in Seoul increased 59 percent from the same period last year to 20.2 million in the first half of 2003.

The board said a total of 65 local films were produced in the first half of this year, while the number of foreign movies dropped to 99 from 144 in 2002.
