Gangwon Begins to Prep for Pyeongchang Olympics Test Events

Gangwon Province has begun preparations to successfully host test events for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics later this month.

An official said Saturday that various cultural programs will be held in connection with the test events to attract foreign tourists, and vowed success in both the test events and the Pyeongchang Games.

A total of 28 test events are scheduled some of which already took place last year including the 2016 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup and the FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup.

Alpine ski test events for this year include a Far East Cup global competition slated in mid-January in Yongpyeong and the Audi FIS Ski World Cup scheduled in March in Jeongseon.

The Biathlon World Cup will also take place in early March. The sport is a combination of cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

The Luge World Cup is scheduled in February at the Alpensia Sliding Center in Pyeongchang where the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cups will also take place in March.
