Written: 2003-07-06 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The government is bidding for an international certification for Korean red pepper paste and bean paste. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry submitted applications for the certification of the two Korean staple dishes at the general assembly of the Codex Alimentarius Commission being held in Rome, Italy. The Codex certification substitutes for food import examinations in one-hundred-65 members of the international food standards setting organization. In early 2001, kimchi, a staple of the Korean diet, became the first Korean food to win the Codex accreditation.
