Community Chest of Korea Likely to See Record Amount of Donations

The annual end-of-year fundraising campaign organized by the Community Chest of Korea is expected to see a new record in donations.

Initially, donations for this year were forecast to be lower than usual given the slump in the nation’s economy.

The charity group said that its "love thermometer" scale, which keeps track of how much has been collected, surpassed 100 degrees Celsius in Daejeon last Tuesday, around two weeks earlier than last year. The scale in Incheon, Daegu and North Jeolla Province has also reached its target earlier than scheduled.

Thanks to such donations, the nation’s overall love thermometer is close to reaching 100 degrees. In previous years, the scale managed to reach the milestone by the end of January.

The charity group will continuously collect donations until next Tuesday.
