South Korea has asked Japan to take appropriate action after its athletes were assigned to stay at a controversial hotel during next month's Asian Winter Games.
The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee(KSOC) said on Wednesday that it sent a letter to lodge a complaint with the Japanese Olympic Committee(JOC) and the organizer of the Sapporo Asian Winter Games for placing Korean athletes at APA Hotel and Resort, which places right-wing books in rooms for visitors.
A KSOC official said the Japanese committee had promised to handle the matter last week, but since it remains unresolved, a letter was sent. In the letter, the KSOC expressed concerns that the presence of the books in athletes’ rooms runs counter to the spirit of the sporting event and asked the organizing committee to take proper follow-up measures.
The KSOC pointed out Article 36 of the Olympic Council of Asia Constitution and Rules which stipulates that "No kind of demonstration, political, religious or racial propaganda is permitted in any OCA game sites, venues or other areas associated with the games."
