South Korea has jumped to third place in the medal standings at the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan, by racking up four gold medals and two silvers on Sunday.
Park Ji-won won the men’s one-thousand-500-meter short track speed skating final with a time of two minutes and 30-point-622 seconds, followed by his compatriot Kim Do-kyoum in second point-151 seconds later.
Son Ha-kyung won in the same event for the women's side, clocking two minutes and 34-point-591 seconds, while Kim A-lang took the silver in the same event with a time of two minutes and 35-point-zero-one seconds.
South Korea also won both the men’s and women’s Team Pursuit speed skating races, with the men’s team beating Japan by three-point-34 seconds while the women’s team defeated Russia by four-point-93 seconds.
As of the end of Sunday, South Korea secured seven gold medals, three silvers and two bronzes.
Russia was leading the medal tally with 19 gold medals, 20 silvers and 12 bronzes. Kazakhstan was runner-up with ten golds, three silvers and ten bronzes, while Japan was fourth with five golds, eleven silvers and ten bronzes.
