Ballerina Kim Ji-young's Performance Cancelled in China

A performance by the Korean National Ballet’s principal dancer has been revoked in China.

There are concerns this is another sign Beijing is retaliating against South Korea for agreeing to house a powerful U.S. missile defense system known as THAAD.

The national ballet said Wednesday it had been discussing an appearance by Kim Ji-young in Shanghai Ballet’s performance of “Swan Lake” this April.

It was notified of the cancellation a day before, and a national ballet official said no specific explanation was given.

The latest cancellation comes after performances by South Korean soprano Sumi Jo and pianist Paik Kun-woo were canceled in China.
