South Korea wrapped up the 2017 Winter Universiade with a third-place finish in the medal standings.
The eleven-day winter sporting event came to a close in Almaty on Wednesday, with Russia at the top of the medal standings with 29 gold, 27 silver and 15 bronze.
The host, Kazakhstan, and South Korea followed, both with eleven gold medals, but Kazakhstan became the runner-up with eight silver medals over South Korea’s five. South Korea also secured five bronze medals compared with 17 won by Kazakhstan.
A total of 81 athletes and officials represented South Korea during the 2017 Universiade. All of the medals for the country came from short track speed skating and speed skating.
South Korea won six gold medals in short track speed skating, three of which were won by female skater Son Ha-kyung. It added three silvers and a bronze in the sport.
Team Korea also won five golds, two silvers and four bronzes in speed skating. Cha Min-kyu won two of the golds from the men's 500-meter and one-thousand-meter races.
