Seoul Unveils Han River Development Project

The Seoul Metropolitan Government unveiled a plan Thursday to create commercial and cultural facilities around the Han River.

The plan includes building a dock for ferries, water taxis and private yachts as well as an observatory in Yeouido, western Seoul.

The city government plans to invest 193 billion won, or 168 million U.S. dollars in the project by 2019, including funds from national and city coffers as well as private capital.

Commercial facilities will be situated along Yeouido's Han River promenade. The project envisions a nearby street for restaurants and coffee shops which will be connected to the Han River park.

A cultural center for a permanent exhibition and a children's science hall will also be established.

The city government said it will pursue the dock first and hold an urban planning competition for the food street.
