A group of 28 U.S. Congressmen have submitted a draft resolution to call on the Japanese government to apologize and pay compensation for atrocities committed on women forced into sexual slavery for Japanese soldiers during World War II.
The draft resolution, presented to the House International Relations Committee by Rep. Don Evans and 27 other Congressmen, demands the Tokyo government to apologize, in a clear and explicit manner, for forcing young women from Asian and Pacific nations to perform sexual services for Japanese soldiers.
It also calls for Tokyo to immediately pay compensation for crimes against the so-called "comfort women" and to educate Japanese students about their government's illegal acts.
The draft estimated that the Tokyo government had systematically kidnapped and enslaved some 200,000 female victims.
