Gov't to Deregulate AI, VR, Fintech Sectors

Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn announced plans Thursday for South Korea to embrace what he calls an "intelligence information society" in the near future.

The government is looking to introduce favorable regulation in three future growth sectors: artificial intelligence(AI), virtual reality(VR) and financial technology.

Authorities hope to pass the tentatively named Framework Act on Intelligence Information Society to fine-tune the definition of intelligence information technologies and the protection of data property rights.

Other planned measures will address the safety of AI, legal accountability concerns in the case of mishaps and a code of ethics on developing technologies.
