S. Korea Adds 4 Silvers, Falls to 2nd Place at Asian Games

South Korea’s two-time Olympic gold medalist Lee Sang-hwa has won a silver medal in the women’s 500-meter speed skating event at the Sapporo Asian Games.
 
At the event held in Obihiro Forest Speed Skating Rink on Tuesday, the reigning Olympic champion finished the race in 37-point-71 seconds, second fastest among the 18 athletes. Nao Kodaira of Japan won the event in 37-point-40 seconds.
 
Cross-country skier Lee Chae-won brought home another silver medal from the women’s 10-kilomter free race, clocking a time of 30-minutes-49 seconds.
 
Seo Yi-ra also won a silver medal in the short track men’s 500-meter event in 40-point-842 seconds, while Park Se-yeong won a bronze in the women’s 500-meter event in 41-point-182 seconds.  
 
The women’s speed skating team, consisting of Kim Bo-reum, Park Ji-woo and Noh Seon-yeong, also added a silver from the team pursuit event at the combined time of three-minutes-six-point-67 seconds.
 
At the end of Tuesday, South Korea yielded the top position to Japan, which raked in five gold medals in the day.  
 
Since the opening of the Games on Sunday, Japan has secured eight gold medals through Tuesday, followed by South Korea at six, and China at five. Kazakhstan is a distant fourth with a single gold.
