Speed skater Lee Seung-hoon has grabbed another gold medal at the Sapporo Asian Winter Games, becoming the first ever South Korean to win a total of four gold medals in the Games.
Lee came in first among eleven speed skaters in the Men 16 Laps Mass Start event held at the Obihiro Forest Speed Skating Oval on Thursday.
Lee won a gold in the men’s five-thousand-meter event earlier on Monday and two gold medals on Wednesday, one in the men’s ten-thousand-meter event and another in the team pursuit event.
Another promising speed skater, Kim Min-seok, added a gold for South Korea in the men’s 15-hundred-meter event. He posted a new Asian record of one minute and 46-point-26 seconds in that event.
Kim, who is competing in the Asian Winter Games for the first time, has won two gold medals, the first coming from the team pursuit event.
As of Thursday afternoon, South Korea ranks second in the overall medal tally with 14 gold, 12 silver and ten bronze medals.
