SNU Team Develops Smart Contact Lens

South Korean researchers have pioneered what they're describing as "the world's first smart contact lens."

Professor Hong Byung-hee, leader of a Seoul National University research team, says the graphene-coated lens they have developed can shield the eye from electromagnetic interference and also maintain hydration to prevent dry eyes.

They say their achievement paves the way for the future development of contact lenses that can measure the wearer's blood sugar level in real time.

Details of their study are published in ACS Nano, a monthly journal of the American Chemical Society.
