South Korea has finished second at the 2017 Asian Winter Games, held in Sapporo, Japan.
Team Korea, consisting of 142 athletes and 79 officials, collected 16 gold medals during the eight-day event beating China, who won a total of 12 gold medals, for the first time in fourteen years. The host, Japan, finished on top with a total of 27 golds.
Choi Da-bin brought home South Korea’s first-ever gold medal in figure skating at the Winter Asian Games, winning the lady’s event on Saturday.
Speed skater Lee Seung-hoon has become the first South Korean to win four gold medals at a single Winter Asian Games.
South Korea also won 18 silver medals and nine bronze medals at the Sapporo Games.
Kazakhstan finished fourth with six gold medals, while North Korea managed to round up top five, although it only won a bronze medal.
A total of 64 gold medals were up for grabs at the games, which gathered together 32 Asian countries.
