KBS has begun test services of ultra-high-definition(UHD) terrestrial broadcasting ahead of its official launch at the end of May.
 
The service began at 5 a.m. Tuesday from KBS headquarters in western Seoul.
 
UHD broadcasts will reach most areas of the capital region using transmission equipment installed in mountains in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.
 
Test broadcasts will continue until UHD broadcasting for the capital region begins on May 31st.
 
KBS is planning live UHD broadcasts of the opening and closing ceremonies as well as some sports events of the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
 
UHD broadcasts provide four times the resolution of high-definition broadcasts, along with diverse interactive services.
