A South Korean parliamentary delegation arrived in Cairo late Friday for talks with Egyptian officials on ways of promoting bilateral cooperation and exchange.

The five-member delegation is scheduled to meet with Egypt's top parliamentary leaders, including Ahmed Fathi Sorour, speaker of the lower house People's Assembly, and Mostafa Kamal Helmi, speaker of the upper house Shura Council.

In Egypt's political system, much of the legislative power is concentrated in the lower house.

The South Korean delegation is led by Vice National Assembly Speaker Cho Boo-young, a three-term lawmaker from the minor opposition United Liberal Democrats.

The delegation will wrap up talks and leave Egypt for Seoul July 15.
