S. Korea Seeks to Host World Cup with N. Korea, China, Japan

The Korea Football Association is aiming to have four Northeast Asian countries jointly host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The association’s president, Chung Mong-gyu, said in an interview with reporters on Thursday that he wants the two Koreas, China and Japan to jointly host the 2030 World Cup.

Chung made the remark after attending an opening ceremony of “Fæntasium”, a football theme park within the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had already set the course for two to three countries to jointly host the 2026 and 2030 World Cups by expanding the number of countries that can take part in the 2026 World Cup from 32 to 48.

The 2018 World Cup will take place in Russia and the 2022 World Cup will open in Qatar.

Under FIFA's current continental rotation system, it is impossible for a World Cup to take place in Asia until 2026.
