S. Korea Loses 2-1 to Israel at WBC Opener

South Korea has suffered an upset defeat at the hands of Israel during the opener of the World Baseball Classic(WBC).

During the first game of Pool A held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on Monday, the host team lost 2-1 to Israel, after Israel broke the 1-1 tie in the 10th inning thanks to an infield single from Scott Burcham.

It was a bitter defeat for South Korea who currently rank 3rd in the world. Israel is ranked 41st.

The South Korean team can only advance to the second round if they win both of the remaining games of Pool A, which will see them face the Netherlands and Taiwan.

Team Korea will play the Dutch team at the same venue at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
