S. Korea Loses to Netherlands 5-0 at WBC, Faces 1st-Round Exit

South Korea’s national baseball team is on the brink of humiliating first-round exit at the World Baseball Classic after it suffered a second consecutive loss on Tuesday.

Team Korea lost 5-0 to the Netherlands, in their second Pool A game at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, recording only six hits throughout nine innings. South Korea lost the opening game to Israel 2-1, a day earlier.

The team led by manager Kim In-sik will face off with Taiwan at the same venue at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, but regardless of the result chances are slim that South Korea will advance to the next round.

South Korea can only finish as runner-up if they beat Taiwan, if Israel beat the Netherlands and if the Netherlands lose to Taiwan. South Korea would also need to record more runs than Taiwan and the Netherlands in order to clinch second place.
